Diversity Day Showcases the International Community

The MSB community came together on Saturday, April 12th to celebrate the diversity of its student body. Students from over 20 different countries brought food, drinks, and music from their respective countries to sample.

"With over 250 attendants, we passed our goal by more than 25%. We even ran out of tickets due to incredible demand," said Nasim Pahlavan (MBA '08), Co-President of Diversity Day.

The breadth of food and beverages attracted many to the event. Contributors ranged from: Texas Club, Hispanic & Latin American Student Association, European Business Association, Africa & Middle East Graduate Alliance, South Asian Business Alliance, Korean Club, Asia Business Consortium, Japan Society, and numerous student volunteers.

"The food was amazing. I really enjoyed trying things from different countries," said Rajat Bhatia (MBA '08), who is from India and sampled a variety of cuisines. "Thailand was my favorite, but I had a very dificult time choosing."

Diversity Day was made possible not just by students, but by support from MSB and Abercrombie & Fitch.

"Dean Daly recognizes that the international community plays an integral part in our experience," Pahlavan said. "We appreciate the opportunity to give back and show what the spirit of MSB is about."

A&F recognizes the importance of diversity and has been an enthusiastic sponsor for the last few years. The firm not only donated money but also contributed raffle prizes for four lucky winners. A&F's sponsorship also inspired a fashion show that featured traditional clothing from different countries, modeled by MSB students and families alike.

Parvaneh Nilforoushan and Nasim Pahlavan, co-Presidents of Diversity Day, selected Rosa Lyn Joy Way Bueno (MBA '08), a native of Peru, as the winner of the fashion show contest for her beautiful outfit and for winning the crowd with a twirl of her skirt. The live entertainment concluded with a Taiwanese dance performance by Ling-Ling Wen (MBA '09) and her dance parter, Zac.

Thanks to the many supportive volunteers, Diversity Day 2008 was a huge success. People of different backgrounds came together to showcase their pride for the heritages as well as their support for MSB. Multiple students even called it "the best MSB event of the year."
