GWIB Holiday Party Raises Funds for the YWCA

|
On Thursday, November 28th, the Georgetown Women in Business club hosted its annual holiday charity event.
It wasn’t much of a surprise that - despite the stress of finishing final projects, multiple career presentations and studying for exams that were just around the corner - the MSB community came through on the last day of Mod 2 classes and helped make this party a great success!
The evening took place at Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place at the Waterfront, where attendees wined and dined on discounted drinks and delicious appetizers. GWIB members mingled with fellow MSB students and local professionals, and enjoyed a raffle at the end of the evening.
Raffle prizes were the result of generous donations from local businesses around Georgetown. Included in the prize list were a gift card at the favored Georgetown study spot Saxby’s, two gift bags from the newly opened Starbucks on M street, two month-long gym memberships to the local WSC, 10 yoga classes at Down Dog Yoga, a gourmet gift basket from Chocolopolis, two $50 gift certificates to Hook and Clyde’s, and a $75 gift certificate to Tony & Joe’s.
Jamey Borrell (MBA ‘09) was among the lucky few with a winning ticket. Her prize was the one-month membership to Washington Sports Club, after which she mentioned that it was the perfect gift for her boyfriend, as he had just arrived in DC for a one month visit and would surely enjoy the use of the gym.
All proceeds from the event went to the YWCA National Capital Area - Washington Women in the Trades, the oldest and largest multicultural women’s group in the world.
YWCA’s mission is to eliminate racism and empower women by providing them safe places to live, by giving them the tools they need to achieve their goals, and by advocating for women’s and civil rights in Congress.
The members of GWIB hope that the donations and the awarenes raised at the holiday event will help make a significant positive impact on DC womens’ life.
Up next for GWIB will be elections for the new board on Wednesday, January 9th...
