8:30AM: Log in, start attacking emails.
9:00AM: Approve event request forms. Review proposal from Nonpro! t InternshipFund to start a loan forgiveness program and memorandum from GALA about the 2008 Reaching Out Conference.
9:45AM: An international student pops in and asks if I have a minute. After discussing internship search strategies, we start to talk about H1B visa issues.
While she is only a first year, I’m glad to hear that she is already thinking ahead. She is pursuing some great opportunities overseas, but I recommend she also keep the US network open since she would like to work here fulltime. Together we brainstorm companies that are based in the US but also have offices in her home country. She promises to follow up after she has done more research.
10:15AM: A second-year jumps in who is concerned about the minimum GPA requirement needed to graduate. We work through his GPA and determine that he needs a minimum “B” average in all his remaining classes in order to graduate successfully. He thinks this is doable, and we both agree to keep a close eye on his academic performance.
11:00AM-1:00PM: Conduct interviews with the GEMA externship committee. Of the 20 chosen to interview, 12 students will be selected for the spring externship.
1:15PM: Robert from the front office brings in the Matters of Taste quote for catering during the second integrative. The prices are too high, so I give the caterer a call. I provide more detail and push a bit, and luckily he thinks that he can get me lower prices. Good thing I took that Negotiations class!
1:55PM: An international student drops by to let me know that he has two fantastic full time job offers - great news!
2:00PM: Quick lunch, brought from home.
2:15PM: Get an email from Rachel Rubin at the Of! ce of International Programs with an answer about overseas work authorization. This reminds me that I need to talk to her about several other things, so I give her a call. Biggest issue - only three students have submitted OPT applications for early graduation, which has us both concerned about the remaining students who are trying to graduate early, and their ability to travel for Global in the spring.
3:00PM: Several international students are returning home over winter break and need a letter that veri! es their enrollment in order to renew their US Visas. Within 15 minutes the letters are printed on MSB letterhead and ready to be picked up.
3:20 PM-6:15 PM: Finish lunch while completing degree audits for second year advisees. Make notes to keep an eye on certain students during their last two mods. Otherwise, they’re looking good and are on track for graduation!

5:30AM: My alarm goes off, and if it is a good day, I actually get up. However, I usually don’t make it up until 6AM, which gives me 30-45 minutes to shower and dress before leaving the house without breakfast.
6:45AM: Daily stop at the near by 7-11 for one small Red Bull to help me face the next 45 (hopefully, only 45) minutes of traffic.
7:45AM: It only took an hour" This is going to be a good day. Arrive at work and begin sizing up my “to-do” list.
9:00AM-10:30AM: Begin going through the 100+ emails in my box. The topic of the day is Pre-Registration.
10:30AM-12:00PM: Review Pre-Registration in FacultyAccess+ with occasional breaks to answer questions as students stop by.
12:15PM-12:30PM: Meet with a few students regarding the IBD application process.
12:30PM-1:15PM: Meet with a student regarding a Leave of Absence. Then, I continue answering all of the emails and returning telephone calls.
1:15PM-2:30PM: With the students back in class, I can sneak out to lunch for a few minutes by myself, right? Oh no, I forgot I have a 1:30PM appointment with Rosie O’Neil from the IBD Program. A quick telephone call confirms the appointment, but since she has not had lunch either, we decide to meet at the Tombs and make it working lunch.
2:30PM-3:30PM: Virginia Flavin from the Dean’s Office and I meet with members of the Registrar’s Of! ce about the MBA Commencement Ceremony. Yes, we are already meeting about 2008 graduation!
3:30PM-4:30PM: Again, I work on approving and denying pre-registrations and have students pop in and out to ask questions about the pre-reg process. Yes, you will be denied if you do not put the correct desired load!
4:30PM-5:30PM: Meet with Cindy McCauley and Simona Chin (from Student Services) to review any major pre-registration problems that occurred today and prep for tomorrow.
5:30PM-6:30PM: I once again return to my office to work on approving and denying pre-registrations. Are you beginning to see a pattern here?
6:30PM: Leave the of! ce and start the drive home. Yes, the HOV is now legal, and I can take it all the way back to Spring! eld. I make it home in only 30 minutes.
7:00PM-8:00PM: Have a few friends from my German class over to practice for our exam on Thursday night.
9:00PM-9:30PM: My husband, Mike, arrives home from work and school. We debate if we will get in the car and drive to the gym, but eventually, we decide that we will go tomorrow...
9:30PM-11:00PM: Watch a little television until I fall asleep...
